How a Man Smells

I love Old Spice. I've been a fan since my late teen years, those strange times when you think that an unnatural scent is all it will take to make you irresistible to the opposite sex. Here, some years removed from that embarrassing era, I've retained my fondness for the simplicity of Old Spice. I'm not a big user of after shaves or colognes, but I am a faithful user of Old Spice deodorants, and their after shave is top in my rotation.

I also love their commercials.

  1. Oh man. The Bruce Campbell one is a CLASSIC. Used Old Spice all through my last two years of high school and through college. We home-school debater guys literally thought good-smelling deodorant was the most important difference between a ladies man and a loser - that and high-powered breath mints. In college I needed a strong antiperspirant with all the soccer practices and running to classes in the Virginia humidity, and their Red Zone product was insuperable. I also used their aftershave. I moved on to a Right Guard deodorant at some point, I don't remember why, and I stopped using aftershave a long time ago. Recently I ran out of my pit rub and didn't have time to run to the store. My housemate Trent had an unopened stick of Old Spice antiperspirant he said he wasn't ever going to use. The first day it was psychologically uncomfortable, because every time I caught a slight whiff of it, I was reminded of MUCH more immature versions of my life. But with that also came a flood of fond memories from years ago. It's a fun coincidence you wrote this now, since it was literally yesterday that I paused for a second, looked at my deodorant, and decided I'll permanently switch back to Old Spice. Funny how smells can be so connected to memories and sentiments. My favorite male scent is my Burt's Bees' Bay Rum Cologne. I was bummed out that they discontinued it, so I am hoping my bottle lasts. It's very mountain-y.

  2. I like Old Spice, and I like these commercials, especially the first one: "...two tickets to that thing you love..."
